Suchitra Film Society 'Celebrating Women' with the European Union Film Festival

Suchitra Film Society, the academy to promote Indian culture & cinema in association with European Union Film Festival on the occasion of 50th anniversary of EU-India friendship is paying a tribute to Women on this International Women’s month by screening 24 women oriented movies showcasing different shades and nuances of women, and will offer an insight into their remarkable lives, some of which might resonate with our Indian viewers.  The festival will be held from March 21-28 in three venues- Suchitra Film Society, Alliance Francaise & Bangalore International Centre. 5th Biffes Celebrating 100 Years of Indian Cinema

Bangalore, December 5, 2012: To commemorate 100 years of Indian cinema, Biffes has selected a unique collection of films that truly reflect the richness of India’s cinema that continues to retain the local flavor, essence, emotions and dialect of this culturally majestic country. For the centenary of Indian cinema, Biffes is going to celebrate throughout the festival with a strong overall presence of Indian features and documentaries. Twelve Indian films are chosen to showcase in the festival. All twelve movies are completely diverse from each other. 5th Biffes is going to be a true testament to the filmmaking excellence we see year after year.

COMPETITIONS
This year also Biffes is holding a competition in contemporary Indian cinemas and Kannada Cinemas. 11 films have been selected for the Indian cinema Competition and the winner will be awarded “Suchitra Samman” at the end of the festival.  In the exclusive Kannada Cinema Competition 8 films have been shortlisted by an eminent panel of film personalities.

About Karnataka Chalanchitra Academy: 
Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy was formed by the Government of Karnataka in 2009 to promote film culture in Karnataka. The Academy, under the chairmanship of Smt. Tharaanooradha, has taken up several projects to develop a healthy film culture in the state and adopted the motto of promoting ‘Education in Cinema and Cinema in Education’. KCA has been conducting Film Appreciation Courses in different parts of the state, in colleges and film societies. It has also promoted the establishment of district, institutional and campus film societies all over the state. It engaged the members of these societies to participate in the first-ever KCA International Film Festival, a low-budget event with DVD screenings of 100 films, which found overwhelming response in Bengaluru and four other districts of Karnataka. A journey to the world retrospective cinemas In 5th Bangalore International Film Festival, 2012
Masters of Cinema –Revising International Classics

Bangalore, December 6, 2012: 5th Biffes is paying a tribute to International legends of retrospective Cinemas.  The festival is featuring great directors, screenwriters, producers and editors like, Akira Kurosawa (Japan), Henri-Georges Clouzot (France) and Michelangelo Antonioni (Italy) and showcasing best of their movies.

Akira Kurosawa was a Japanese film director, screenwriter, producer, and editor. Regarded as one of the most important and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema, Kurosawa directed 30 films in a career spanning 57 years. To name few his renowned movies are Ikiru, I Live in Fear, The Hidden Fortness, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Madadayo, The Idiot, Scandal.

Henri-Georges Clouzot was a French film director, screenwriter and producer. He is best remembered for his work in the thriller film genre, having directed The Wages of Fear and Les Diaboliques, which are critically recognized to be among the greatest films from the 1950s. Clouzot also directed documentary films, including The Mystery of Picasso, which was declared a national treasure by the government of France. His’ other remarkable movies are Assassin habite au 21, L`Enfer, Quai des Orfèvres .

Michelangelo Antonioni, was an Italian film director, screenwriter, editor, and short story writer. Best known for his "trilogy on modernity and its discontents" —L'Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), and Eclipse (1962). Antonioni has redefined the concept of narrative cinema. His’ best movies are Blow up, Identification of a woman, Red Desert, Zabreskie Point, Story of a Love affair.
